GPS Data: Party Differences in Social Distancing

This plot shows the estimated coefficients from a regression of log(number of visits to points of interest) on the share of voters that voted for Donald Trump in 2016. Points of interest include restaurants, entertainment, retail, and health care. Controls include county FE, state-time FE, health, local economy, and weather.

These estimates imply that going from a county with the 10th to the 90th percentile in Republican vote share is associated with a 11.5 percent increase in visits during the week of April 6, when social distancing was at its peak.

Error bars indicate 95% confidence intervals.
